Math Shouldnt Be Quiet
Description

Math shouldnt always be quiet! Why? Because when students transform their mathematics learning and thinking into words, they dramatically expand their ability to think critically about math, develop higher-order thinking skills, and apply their knowledge to new and novel math situations. Students immersed in the language of math become fluent in the language of math. They grow into confident, competent mathematicians and develop deeper conceptual understanding that goes far beyond memorizing algorithms. In this session you will learn: How students build math confidence and own their learning in discourse-driven classrooms The role of math discourse in ongoing, real-time assessment that empowers teachers to deliver agile and flexible instruction How to use routines to build a discourse-rich mathematics classroom where students are excited to learn.
