Dr. Lena McArthur’s tenure with Miami Dade County Public Schools has been monumental. She has traveled throughout various positions, ascertaining upward mobility, year after year. Dr. McArthur started out at Lindsey Hopkins Technical Education Center as a Switchboard Operator. While continuing her education, she was promoted to Registration Clerk and advanced to Data Input Specialist II at Paul Laurence Dunbar Elementary School. Her professional talents were noticed, and she was offered a job as an Executive Secretary the 5000 Roles Models of Excellence Office. In 2003, she received her bachelor’s degree in Secondary English Education and began her teaching career at Miami Norland Senior High School, as an English teacher. During that time, she continued her educational journey, receiving a master’s degree from the University of Phoenix in Curriculum/Instruction in 2006. While at Norland, Dr. McArthur worked as a magnet and freshman academy lead teacher and the SLC/Dual Enrollment/Advanced Placement Coordinator. Her love for leadership continued to blossom. In 2011, she obtained her Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership. In 2012, Dr. McArthur progressed to Career Technical Education Coach at Booker T. Washington Senior High School and in 2013, she was promoted to Assistant Principal, over curriculum. Her arduous work and dedication paid off, and she was promoted again in 2017 to Vice Principal. In December of 2019, Dr. McArthur completed her Ed.D. in Human Services Administration. Additionally, she was selected as the 2019 Assistant Principal of the Year for the Booker T. Washington Senior High School Feeder Pattern. Dr. McArthur sits on the SACs committee at Booker T. Washington Senior High School, M-DCPS Central Region Master Schedule Review Team, Test and SIP Committees, and mentor’s novice assistant principals for the district. Her commitment to making a difference in society has evolved and she is currently providing numerous professional development workshops with esteem expertise in Communities of Practices (COPs), Mindfulness for Adults, and Securing Partnerships.
