It is crucial to involve key stakeholders since school discipline affects numerous systems. By the end of this session, the participants will understand the framework and implication of how zero-tolerance policies fit into the bigger picture and how they relate to the Code of Student Conduct (COSC), School Board Policies, and state statutes. Participants will examine these policies' effects on educational opportunities and student outcomes through a critical lens. They will also consider how state statutes impact school disciplinary policies and examine different discipline methods. In line with this goal, we will discuss the theoretical underpinnings of zero-tolerance policies and their practical consequences, focusing on reporting, documentation, and understanding the relevant legal frameworks.
