Dr. Carmen S. Concepcion serves as the Dean of the School of Education at Miami Dade College. Over the past two years, her achievements include spearheading the development, launch and implementation of the Teacher Candidate Residency Program and the Teaching Academy Dual Enrollment Program, expanding the Educator Preparation Institute, and establishing a strategic partnership with Achieve Miami's Teacher Accelerator Program. Her leadership has been instrumental in propelling the School of Education to impressive growth in enrollment. In collaboration with her colleagues at MDC and MDCPS, Dr. Concepcion is leading the development of the Teacher Apprenticeship Program.
Her experience includes roles as classroom teacher, literacy coach, curriculum support specialist, and district administrator at MDCPS. Additionally, she has served as a Florida Literacy and Reading Excellence Coordinator at the University of Central Florida and as the Director of Professional Learning at Florida Virtual School.
Dr. Concepcion's educational journey began with an Associate of Arts in Education from Miami Dade Community College in 1991. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Social Studies Education from Florida International University, a Master of Science in TESOL from Nova Southeastern University, and a Specialist in Reading Education from the University of Miami. Her dedication to excellence in teaching and learning was recognized when she achieved National Board Certification as a teacher of English as a New Language in 2013. She later earned a Doctor of Education in K12 from the College of William and Mary in 2020.
